KCS PRO SAIL SYSTEMS
Our sails are made from the highest quality of material available on the market and are manufactured by Owen Sails in the U.K. – one of the most highly respected sail makers in Europe for their high quality and expertise in sail design and manufacturing. We gave them a rough design of what we required for a kayak sail and they came up with a design different in cut and shape to all others on the market. Since then we have had amazing feedback from customers and experts on the performance of the sails. Our Sail Design is original and not copied from other Sail Makers as Owen Sails did say when they started the project that they design from their expertise plus I must be aware that Owen Sails do not use any lower grade of materials , only the best quality for performance and lasting in the severe conditions they will be used.
Fitting a Sail to your Kayak increases the distance you can cover on an Expedition allowing you to explore further. The Inuits used a sail fitted to their kayaks to broaden there horizons when hunting. Fitting Sails to Sea Kayaks is nothing new.
I have been sailing since I was 10 years old and meeting up with Douglas Wilcox and his paddling friends a few years ago in the Sound of Mull, they were all paddle sailing, I had just finished designing a fitting for a Sea Kayaking guide who had asked me to design a System that would reuire no drilling into a kayak for fitting a Sail and all the hardware. This had just been completed and tested when he asked me if I would like to take over the design to manufacture and market it under the KCS logo as he had too much work in hand to get it ready for sale on the market. I gave hime the fee back that we had charged him so we could then do the rest of the work required, new design of sail, mast and a few other improvements to then add it into the KCS family of quality products.
Extensive testing was undertaken by the renowned kayak sailing expert Dr. Douglas Wilcox. He was very impressed with the performance in light winds force 2/3 and also in force 5. See his full report here.
All fittings are made from the highest quality available, the mast and boom are carbon fibre, the hatch cover is made of polypropylene covered on the top with carbon effect, an alloy plate is used for the shrouds and mast base for extra strength. Sails are made from dacron and trilaminate our size is 0.75m2, and is of spritsail design with one batten and external foot loose boom. Sail has a mast sleeve and downhaul and outhaul eyes for attachment to the boom. Sail colour is available only in red as our images.
If required we offer a no drilling option on your expensive sea kayak, which can be moved to other kayaks. The watertight hatch cover takes all the pressure asserted when kayak sailing and our system is designed to spread the forces over a much larger area of your kayak.

As a replacement Sail for Flat Earth, our design is different. Douglas Wilcox the expert on Sail Systems has found that our system fits the mast and boom for the Flat Earth.

Our no drilling system for round P&H or other makes of forward hatch. The complete package; sail, mast, boom, mast foot attachment, all stays and shrouds, sheets and auxiliary items including our newly designed hatch cover. *Please specify the make and model of Kayak when ordering.
Comes complete with everthing required including a Sail Bag.
OPTION 4 / OVAL FORWARD HATCH – NO DRILLING REQUIRED
As above complete for Valley Oval Front Hatch or for Kayaksport Oval Front Hatch. *Please specify make and model of kayak when ordering.

Included parts are as follows; Cord loops, Ronstan Shocks, Clam Cleats, Sail tie down, centre cord for sheet with Ronstan Shock and all cord required.
